About the Sunmark Charitable Community Foundation

The Sunmark Charitable Community Foundation is the charitable arm of Sunmark Federal Credit Union. The Foundation seeks to live the credit union philosophy of People Helping People, and serves to help various communities, support financial education and improve the quality of life for those in need.

Sunmark has a long history of giving within the Capital Region since its beginning as a small credit union within General Electric in 1937. As Sunmark has grown to one of the largest credit unions in the area, so too has its giving grown. The Sunmark Foundation now supports local, nonprofit organizations in the Capital Region by providing financial contributions, in-kind services, and volunteer support.

Meet a few of our Partners!

The RED Bookshelf is a program dedicated to getting books into children’s homes. Through community efforts our trained staff and volunteers collect, prepare, and distribute books onto RED Bookshelves in Albany, New York. These shelves are in places where children are, and we feel strongly that affording children the opportunity to select their own books will foster their lifelong love of reading. Children love books and love to own them. Children are drawn to the books and bright red bookshelves and naturally choose books that appeal to them.  

The Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center is the only state-of-the-art facility that provides comprehensive care for children in northeastern New York and western New England.   Our Albany Medical Center team of more than 140 physicians has extensive training and experience in 40 subspecialties of pediatric medicine and attends to all of your children’s healthcare needs. Our physicians serve as faculty members at Albany Medical College, which gives patients and their families’ access to some of the most innovative treatments available today. 

 Albany Ronald McDonald House provides a haven of comfort, love, hope and support – free of charge – for critically ill children and their families. We want to enable family-centered care by keeping children close to their families during a time of hardship. The Family Room and Family Suite offer families respite and support within the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center, close to their ill child and his/her caregivers. Our Dental Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, in partnership with St. Peter’s Health Care Services, provides free, comprehensive dental care to underserved and underinsured young students. Our community-based Grants Program supports other local charitable organizations and programs that directly improve the lives of children. 

Today Capital Roots works to reduce the impact of poor nutrition on public health in New York’s Capital Region by organizing community gardens, providing healthy food access, offering nutritional and horticultural education for all ages and coordinating urban greening programs in Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady and southern Saratoga Counties. 

We believe everyone should have access to help and support so they can reach their fullest potential. At Mission Accomplished we coach, develop and support millennials to become amazing visionary leaders. Our programming prepares millennials to find their purpose, develop their skills and transition into the global workforce, higher education and philanthropy (investing time, talent and treasure into community-based organizations) . We believe millennials have the power to become mature, active and compassionate global citizens. We empower millennials to take responsibility of their future and live a life of purpose. This is why at the core of all our programming is our philosophy that we call “MELC IT”.

The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been providing shelter for lost, abused and unwanted animals since 1887. The Society is the oldest and largest animal protection organization in New York’s Capital Region, receiving an average of over 6,000 animals per year.

To carry out our work for the animals, MHHS receives no ongoing funding from federal, state or local governments or any other animal welfare organization. We rely on your generous donations to support our vital services for the animals. 

 

Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with IDD. For individuals within this community, Best Buddies helps them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communications skills, and feel valued by society.
