It’s important to keep your checking account in good standing – but even the most careful number crunchers need a hand at times. Overdraft Privilege Standard Coverage* can save you money, time, and the embarrassment that comes with high merchant fees due to insufficient funds in your account. This service is available on any eligible Sunmark checking account, and you are only charged if you use it.

When you pay with checks, ACH (automatic debits), recurring debit card transactions, or internet or telephone banking, and the funds are not available in your checking account or your overdraft protection sources (such as Funds Transfer or Overdraft Line of Credit), Sunmark will honor the transaction(s) you make through the Overdraft Privilege Standard Coverage program*.

Sunmark will mail you a notice informing you that your account has been brought to a negative balance in order to pay the items. You must bring your account to a positive balance within 32 days of when the first overdraft is paid.

What accounts are eligible to use Overdraft Privilege?

Your checking account is eligible for Overdraft Privilege Standard Coverage if your loans are less than 30 days delinquent and if your checking account has not been negative for 32 days or more. It’s easy to get started. If your account meets those conditions, Overdraft Privilege is already a benefit you can use. Accounts in only a minor’s name, and other special account types, are not eligible for Overdraft Privilege.

When is Overdraft Privilege available?

In addition to the transactions stated above, Overdraft Privilege Extended Coverage is available in Sunmark branches, on ATM withdrawals from your checking account,  and everyday Point-of-Sale (POS) transactions using your ATM/MasterCard® Debit Card; subject to your overdraft privilege limit*. Overdraft Privilege is not available on savings accounts, minor accounts, and other special account types.

Is there a fee for Overdraft Privilege?

There is a $30 fee for each paid overdraft. There is no limit to the total number of fees we will charge for this service.

What do I have to do?

To take advantage of Overdraft Privilege Extended Coverage, call 866-SUNMARK,  visit any branch, or login to your Online Banking account, click on the “Secure Forms” tab, and select “Overdraft Privilege Opt-In” after reviewing this disclosure.

*The Overdraft Privilege limit is $900 (including overdraft amount and Sunmark fees) on individual checking accounts and $1,000 (including overdraft amount and Sunmark fees) on business checking accounts for eligible accounts. Members have 32 days from the time Overdraft Privilege is first used to pay negative account balance. If the member has not paid the account within this time, the account may be closed and placed in collections.

What You Need To Know about Overdrafts and Overdraft Fees

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

  1. We have standard overdraft practices that come with your account.
  2. We also offer overdraft protection plans, such as a link to another account or a line of credit, which may be less costly than our standard overdraft practices. To learn more, ask us about these plans.

This notice explains our standard overdraft practices.

What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my account?

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

We will not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions without your consent.

  • ATM transactions
  • Everyday debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction.

If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if Sunmark Federal Credit Union pays my overdraft?

Under our standard overdraft practices:

  • We will charge you a fee of up to $30.00 each time we pay an overdraft
  • There is no limit per day on the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account

What if I want Sunmark Federal Credit Union to authorize and pay overdrafts on my ATM and everyday debit card transactions?

You can revoke your authorization for Sunmark Federal Credit Union to pay these overdrafts at any time by any of the above methods.
